From May 29 to June 1, Vilnius hosted the International folklore festival “Skamba, skamba kankliai”, gathering folk music enthusiasts from across Lithuania and abroad.

The festival opened with Vilnius folklore ensembles performances on the Neris river, turning the River into a living musical path, while traditional events like Open-air performances of sutartinės in Bernardinai garden celebrated the harmony of music and nature.

Despite the rainy weather, Thursday evening brought everyone together in the Alumnat’s Courtyard, as Vilnius folklore ensembles filled the space with beloved folk songs.

Special attention was given to the Year of Lithuanian Folk Songs. St. Catherine’s Church hosted creatively reconstructed songs by Liudvikas Rėza, performed by the folklore ensemble "Visi", the concert of solo, duet, tercet folk singers Čiulba čiulbutis, and the grand concert in celebration of the Year of Lithuanian Folk Songs Neišenkanti, celebrating the enduring power of song.

Over the weekend, Bernardine Garden traditionally became the heart of the festival, hosting the folk art and culinary heritage fair and a crafts and games area inviting both children and adults to enjoy themselves and learn something new. Performances by folklore ensembles from Vilnius, across Lithuania, and international guest took place on the garden’s main stage.

The festival concluded on Sunday with live performances of folklore ensembles in Vilnius Old Town courtyards, squares, streets, a colorful parade, and the closing concert Jau sutema temela” in Bernardinai Garden.
